MIA: What is going on in my life?

Hello my lovely readers…

Excuse my absence from the Blog, Youtube Channel and almost all Social Media (Facebook, TwitterInstagram and Pinterest) in General. Ever since my last blog post a lot has changed in my life. I resigned my job and became a Stay at Home Mom, we decided to Homeschool our son who was already registered in school and I am now 24 (almost 25) weeks pregnant. Which btw, I am planning to have a home birth. If you want to know a little more about why I decided to have a Home Birth, let me know and I’ll do a blog post.

As you can imagine my focus in life has changed drastically, although I am still a Clean, Natural and Organic Product “freak” and I don’t think that will be changing anytime soon. I do have to say that I have controlled myself in shopping for beauty products and shifted my shopping to homeschool stuff (lol).

After starting to Homeschool my son, all of my focus has shifted to preparing our days to include food, curriculum and daily activities. I have learned so much in the past month and a half from my son and from other homeschoolers. I have also learned the lack of proper education for 4 year olds in daycare. My son learned in a month and a half to write his name without help, count from 1-20 and learn the sounds of the letters. He is also able to identify Capital and Lowercase letters. I have grown a passion for Early Childhood Education and I am seriously thinking about getting some education on the topic. I currently posses a Masters Degree in Social Work and think additional education in Childhood Education will benefit me professionally  (who knows what my future may bring me).

I am still a lover of all things natural and organic and hope to get back on my groove again writing posts and making videos, but my pregnancy and Homeschooling has shifted my time. Hopefully I’ll be a little more organized soon and I’ll be able to accommodate my blog and channel. In the mean time you can always checkout my Instagram in which I post more regularly information about beauty products.

Let me know what you think about homeschooling? Also, what have all you guys have been up to during the summer and how are you preparing for Fall.

Here is a preview of what my son and I have done in this month and a half.

Moringa Connect: Moringa Oil with Lemongrass

Picture I took when I received the Mooring Oil.

Hello Gorgeous ladies and gents (if we have one reading!)!

I am back with a Rave Review of the Moringa Connect Moringa Oil with Lemongrass.

I received this oil amount 3 months ago from Emily one of the Co-founders of Moringa Connect. I had the priviledge to meet Emily in our Boston Green Meet back in December and she talked to us about the benefits of the Moringa Oil. To be honest I had never heard anything about this oil, but it seemed like a oil rich in benefits for the skin. Moringa Connect started with two students visiting Ghana. Kwami and Emily (founders of Moringa Connect) were introduced to what was known locally as “the miracle tree.”

The leaves of the Moringa tree was considered to have more vitamin A than carrots, more protein than eggs, more calcium than milk and more iron than spinach. This tree has the potential to end malnutrition and provide a stable food source to farmers. The oil derived from the tree is rich in anti-oxidants and it has moisturizing agents, it also produces one of nature’s most finest cosmetic oil, not only for skincare, but also for hair and skin (excerpt taken from Moringa Connect’s website, to learn more visit here). The mission of this company is to provide a possible solution for poverty and hunger in Ghana. Isn’t that inspiring?

Testing Moringa Oil

imageimage

I started testing this oil back in January. The first thing that catched my attention was the solid form of the oil, that clearly spoke about how pure this oil is. Now I have to be honest I am not too fond of the Lemongrass scent but it faded quite fast after application. I immediately noticed a difference in my skin. It not only provided moisture but the major difference I noticed was how quickly it would dry up any type of breakout that I had. I didn’t try it in other parts of my body but I’ve heard that it s excellent as a cuticle moisturizer and hair oil.

About a week ago my skin was screaming at me (breakouts everywhere 😅). I am not sure if it was due to a new product I was trying or due to my hormones (you can check my last video on Youtube if you want to know what I mean). I immediately stopped using the product and started using the Moringa Oil and all the breakouts where dried up in two days! Yes!!!! Two days!!! Amazing right?

The price of this oil is $26 for a 1oz bottle. I feel this is super affordable. I noticed on their website that now they carry a Lavender Facial Oil which I am eager to try. If you are interested in buying the Lemongrass you can find it at www.econibella.com

I am interested in trying the Moringa Oil without essential oils.

Have you ever tried this oil? If you haven’t you should definitely check it out!

Current Wishlist

IMG_0940

Oh my! Don’t I have a huge wishlist! (I left out a few masks lol)… Most are skincare, I’m a skincare junkie!

I like reading blog posts about wishlists because I am able to learn about new products and brands I’ve never tried. Today I have for you what are the products in my wishlist. For me a wishlist is composed of products and items that you would want to own but are not able to, in my case due to financial limitations 😭😂. I always splurge here and there but I’ve been a good girl lately ☺️.

1. Earthbody Brighten Cleanser and Mask

I’ve had this in my wishlist for about a year now, well actually whenever we got a deluxe sample in our Petit Vour Box. I used it only as a mask and I didn’t Follow the instructions haha but it still did an amazing job. This mask makes a noticeable difference in your skin appearance and I am not even kidding when I say it makes your skin look brighter. I need the full size of this mask in my life!

2. Salís Skincare Salt Scrub in Lavender & Jasmine or Sandalwood

I know I received a sample of this scrub in one of my subscription boxes but I am not quite sure in which one it was and then I lost it 😔. I used it once and felt my skin noticeably softer. Now to be honest I totally forgot about this scrub until I saw a post from Daniel of Cruelty Free Vegan Beauty (she is adorable check her Youtube Channel out) and I was like heeeeeyyyyy I need this ASAP! With  essential oils of Jasmine and Lavender this scrub is said to promote healing of acne and promote skin regenaration giving the skin a youthful glow. I love me some glow!

3. Odacité Moringa and Petitgrain Booster

To be honest I haven’t tried any of Odacité’s products but Ive heard so much about the boosters that I just want to try them all. Primarily I want to try the Moringa and Petitgrain because I’ve tried Moringa Oil from Moringa Connect and it’s been amazing to my skin. This booster is aimed for very dry skin and it states that it provides healing and soothing to extremely dry skin. I have my eyes in a few of their products but I need to control myself… Ahem! Yup! Control Shirley!

4. May Lindstrom’s The Honey Mud

May Lindstrom’s products have always been in my wishlist. The one that I am still missing is the Honey Mud. Not only does it have honey, but the clays in it help to clean and promote a healthy glow. I’ve heard that mixing the Honey mud with the Problem Solver makes the best mask eva’! So I HAVE to try that mix. My only stop sign is the price 😥, hehe I need to save money.

5. Mahalo Skincare Pele Mask and Vitality Elixir

I might as well say I want the three products (lol), but no really the one I really, really want is the Pele Mask. With ingredients like clays, papaya, hibiscus, cacao, among others, I know my skin will love it and thank me for it. The other thing that catched my eye is that this brand is from Hawaii and all products are made in Hawaii. I am a Hawaii lover.

6. Nūdus Australia Lipstick in 27 Kisses

Ok, now this one is mainly because I love nude lipsticks (like I don’t have enough). I’ve heard so much about Nūdus that I just had to add it to my list. It is made out of certified organic ingredients and ot states that ot leaves your lips hydrated and soft (I love me some hydrated lips). Disclaimer: it does contain an animal derived ingredient. This can be found in the US at BeauTeaBar

7. Aila Cosmetics Top Coat Better than Gel

I’ve always had an issue with my nail polish (any nail polish – 5 free or not) chipping on me. I’ve tried numerous nasty (not 5 free lol) top coats and non have worked. As soon as I heard about Better than Gel I said: “I need that in my life A.S.A.P! It states that it os the “liquid gold” of the nail care arsenal and that it provides a gel like finish. I love me some Gel nails. Who wouldn’t want this in their wishlist? These can also be found at BeauTeaBar.

Hope you liked my wishlist! Let me know what is on your wishlist so I can add more products to mine haha.

Brand Spotlight: Rachel’s Plan Bee

Brand Spotlight: Rachel’s Plan Bee

IMG_0335-0

Hello lovelies!

Winter has arrived to North Carolina, maybe not as strong as when I was in Massachusetts, but my skin is truly feeling it!!! My face not only is getting dry, but also the dryness promotes clogged pores (is it only me?). My body also suffers from dryness, up to the point it itches and creates flakes (it’s bad!).

IMG_0339-0
Rachel and her inspiring son! *Picture taken from http://www.rachelsplanbee.com

Rachel’s Plan Bee has been saving my skin this winter. I learned about Rachel’s Plan Bee on Instagram (IG has introduced me to amazing brands). Rachel is an amazing woman who not only owns a business but also is a mother of a wonderful boy who brings happiness to all of us who see him on pictures. Her story is an inspiration and her mission to provide pure products caught my attention to try her products. I’ll be talking about some of the products I’ve used from her line, especially one that became a true HOLY GRAIL!

Lets do this!

Facial Oil $20

IMG_0333

IMG_0332
Gorgeous detail on the boxes!

I have to start with my Holy Grail product, her facial oil. I’ve mentioned this oil on a few occasions on my Instagram and I thought it was time to give a full focus to this oil. I have been using this facial oil for about 6 months now and even though I try new products I always end up returning to it. It moisturizes my combination/dry skin to perfection, leaving my skin feeling soft to the touch and with no type of oil residue. It doesn’t break out my skin what so ever, which is very important for me. A little goes a long way, so 3 to 4 drops are more than enough so it will last you a long time!!! It is light weight, enough to use it underneath makeup (awesome!). And last but not least, the scent of this face oil is A-MA-ZING, if you want to feel like your spreading a Vanilla Cupcake all over your face, (but not look like a HOT mess) this is the product for you haha >>> no really, it smells amazing!

Ingredients: apricot kernel oil, squalane (olive), grapeseed oil, tocopherol oil, safflower oil, vaccinium macrocarpon (cranberry) seed oil, vanilla planifolia, citrus sinensis (orange) peel oil.

Body Oil $24

IMG_0331

I was very excited when Rachel contacted me as she wanted me to try her new Body Oil. This oil was debuted in November just in time for fall. As soon as I got it I opened it to have a smell and VOILA’, there was the lovely and delicious Vanilla scent that you find in the face oil! Excitement!!! It was amazing to pour it all over my dry skin; it felt like a splash of water on a summer day… Felt amazing! This oil is super moisturizing, yet doesn’t leave your skin with any oil residue (I would not like to feel like a grease ball ha-ha). I use it right after taking a bath when my skin is still damp, and it helps to retain moisture during these bad winter months. I love that it contains Meadowfoam Seed Oil and Cranberry Oil which are amazing anti-oxidant oils. Be sure that I’ll be wearing this during the summer due to the Sun Protection properties of the Cranberry oil! I can’t have enough of it. I’ll be super excited if Rachel comes up with a Coconut or Piña Colada scent! hint hint 😉 ha-ha.

Ingredients: apricot kernel oil, helianthus annuus (sunflower) seed oil, limnanthes alba (meadowfoam) seed oil, grapeseed oil, tocopherol oil, safflower oil, vaccinium macrocarpon (cranberry) seed oil, vanilla planifolia, citrus sinensis (orange) peel oil.

Lotion Bar Sample

IMG_0340
*Picture taken from http://www.rachelsplanbee.com

I received this as a gift with purchase, along with the lip balm when RPB turned 2 years old. Although the lotion bar was a sample, it was a nice size to experience the product. I liked the concept of the product and it was useful. I mostly used it for my hand and cuticles because I found it to be a little tiresome to rub it through my legs (I’m lazy like that, lol). I’m so used to lotions that the concept of a bar just didn’t work for me. Now, in regards to using it as a cuticle and hand moisturizer, it worked perfectly! My hands would just drink it right in and it wouldn’t leave my hands feeling greasy. If you’ve used lotion bars before and don’t mind the extra effort, definitely try this! Oh, btw, the scent is wonderful as it has a mix of vanilla and orange, subtle yet lovely.

Ingredients: beeswax, shea butter, coconut oil, grapeseed oil, tocopherol oil, safflower oil, Citrus sinensis (Orange) Peel Oil, Vanilla planifolia and Citrus paradisii (Grapefruit) Peel Oil

Lip Balm $4

IMG_0338
*Picture taken from http://www.rachelsplanbee.com

The base of this lip balm is apricot kernel oil and beeswax, which, like you can imagine has amazing moisturizing benefits. These winter months call for some extra moisture so having a lip balm accessible is always beneficial. The rest of the ingredients provide not only the moisture needed but also protection for your lips. To be honest I’ve also used it around my nose when it gets dry, I use my fingers to apply it. Works wonders! PS: I noticed there is also a Peppermint Lip Balm, woot!

Ingredients: apricot kernel oil, beeswax, shea butter, coconut oil, tocopherol oil and safflower oil

Brand Spotlight Series! Kosmatology (Giveaway)

Wow! It’s been so long since my last post and my last YouTube video. If you follow me on any of my Social Media you probably know that I just moved from Massachusetts to North Carolina, life has been sooooo crazy for the past month. Then came the Holidays and it seemed like I never had any time between unpacking, getting settled and getting ready to start working again. Any ways here I am once again and with a wonderful series I plan on doing for the New Year and a Giveaway!

PhotoGrid_1415309003359

I was introduced to Kosmatology by one of my favorite and affordable Subscription boxes Bare Bliss Box. What caught my attention about this brand was that most of the ingredients are of Organic and Natural origin, and I love me a lot of that goodness. Janis, the owner of Kosmatology, contacted me to try some of her products. I was already eyeing their Face Wash and Face Oil so I was very excited to try her products. She was wonderful enough to send me 5 of her products and here are my thoughts on them.

Botanical Bliss Hand Sanitizer $3.99

I have never been a fan of Hand Sanitizers but after having my son it started to become necessary to have one around. After starting to use more natural and non-toxic products is seemed impossible to find a hand sanitizer. This sanitizer uses only essential oils of Lavender and Eucalyptus, vegetable glycerin and alcohol it does the job at keeping germs away. The Vegetable Glycerin helps at keeping your hands moisturized, while the EO’s double as scent and an extra antibacterial boost. It has not caused my hands to dry, even in the winter, so I love it and carry it in my bag!

Ingredients: Ethanol, Aqua, Organic Glycerin, Organic Lavandula angustifolia (Lavender) essential oil, Organic Eucalyptus globulus (Eucalyptus) Oil

Goody-Goody Grapefruit Body Wash $11.75

20141106_163927

I am very picky when it comes to body products since I tend to be very sensitive and they usually cause allergic reactions. I have been using this product since the day I received it. It has a very subtle yet uplifting scent of grapefruits. My son loved the scent and since the ingredients are super gentle I was willing to try it on him. It leaves your body soft and feeling clean. The only disadvantage is that the instructions say that you need to shake the product well before use, which at times seemed time taking but it was worth it.

Ingredients: Aqua, Organic Olea europaea (Olive) oil, Potassium Hydroxide, Sodium Chloride, Organic Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter, Organic Ricinus communis (Castor) oil, Organic Citrus paradisi (Grapefruit) essential oil

Mint your Feet – Foot Balm $11.49

20141106_163950

Now let’s be honest, my feet wreak havoc in the fall and winter! They get so dry that at times it hurts. I started using this product as soon as I received it knowing that my feet were already calling for some heavy moisture. My sister and I both tried it and it did an amazing job at keeping our feet moisturized and looking healthy. The scent is an invigorating mint scent that helps your feet feel refreshed. This is definitely a must have product for all of us that need some feet rescue during the winter months.

Ingredients: Organic Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter, Organic Cocos nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Organic Olea europaea (Olive) Oil, Euphorbia Cerifera (Candelilla) wax, Sambucus nigra Fruit Extract, Organic Mentha piperita (Peppermint) Essential Oil, Organic Eucalyptus globulus (Eucalyptus) Essential Oil

Rose Geranium Face Moisturizing Oil $22.49 and Foaming Face Wash $20.75

I was most excited about these two products. The ingredients of both these products are intended for dry skin and anti aging purposes. Rose Geranium Essential oil alone has some amazing properties, it is antibacterial, antimicrobial, a cicatrisant, an astringent, among others. The scent of both products is a bit pungent, but it fades quite quickly.

20141106_164106

I started using the Face Oil first (of course, since I love me some oils), using it at night and when we still had fall weather. After one use I noticed my skin was looking supple, glowing and I can even say brighter as compared to the day before. I felt it was too thick for use under makeup in the morning, so I continued to use it at night. The results continued to be the same for about three weeks straight. Who doesn’t love their skin to feel supple and look brightened? (I love it).

20141106_164028

I then started using the Foaming Face Wash. Since I started using it in the fall my skin was not that dry and the cleanser was feeling amazing. It did an amazing job at cleansing my skin; it left it feeling clean yet not dry. Now, as soon as the weather started getting colder, I noticed my skin was getting a bit dry. I started using it every other day and that helped my dry skin. I definitely feel that for people with combination to dry skin, this cleanser would be better in the Spring and Summer. People with combination to oily skin could find this cleanser beneficial in the Winter plus you get the anti aging benefits. I am excited to start using it again during the Spring.

Ingredients:

Face wash: Aqua, Organic Olea europaea (Olive) oil, Organic Cocos nucifera (Coconut) oil, Potassium Hydroxide, Organic Elaeis guineensis (Palm Kernal) oil, Organic Ricinus communis (Castor) oil, Organic Lavandula angustifolia (Lavender) essential oil, Daucus Carota (Carrot seed) essential oil, Organic Pelargonium graveolens (Rose Geranium) essential oil

Face Oil: Organic Vitis Vinifera (Grape Seed) Oil, Organic Cocos nucifera (Coconut) oil, Olea europaea (Olive) oil, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, , Anthemis nobilis (Chamomile) oil, Sambucus nigra Fruit Extract, Organic Lavandula angustifolia (Lavender) essential oil, Daucus Carota (Carrot seed) essential oil, Organic Pelargonium graveolens (Rose Geranium) essential oil, Calendula officinalis oil

Giveaway!

I am so happy to announce that Kosmatology has been awesome enough to host a giveaway through my blog. The giveaway is a $35.00 gift card on the Kosmatology website. For those who did not receive a lot of Green Beauty gifts during the Holidays this comes in handy. For more details on the giveaway please go to my Instagram Profile and follow the instructions posted. Good Luck!!!

I hope you enjoyed this post and you have a wonderful New Years! Stay safe!

October and November Favorites

It’s been pretty crazy in my life lately and it has been a bit difficult to post not only here but also on Youtube, please excuse me for that.

I normally do Favorites on my Youtube Channel (which you should subscribe to if you haven’t ha!) but this time I wanted to do a blog post instead. I wanted to let you know what are some of the things I have been loving these past two months and how I have been using them in my favor for this horrible cold weather, >>> I cry as I write (I hate the cold).

IMG_4213
Leahlani Skincare Mermaid Mask

IMG_4214

First up is the lovely Mermaid Mask from Leahlani Skincare. I have been using this for the past 2 to 3 months now. I use this when my skin is feeling extra special (breaking out, OF COURSE!). I’ve found that the Hawaiian Raw Honey, Spirulina and essential oils in this mask help my skin calm down and heal my breakouts quicker. The scent of this mask transports you a little bit closer to Hawaii, if your like me that I am a Hawaiian girl on the inside :). I am in love with it!

IMG_4218
Gabriel Cosmetics Liquid Radiance in Liquid Gold

Next up is Gabriel Cosmetics Liquid Radiance in Liquid Gold (I think thats the name haha, lazy me doesn’t want to google :p). I LOOOVEEEEE this highlighter. If you are into highlighters as I am, this is just the perfect gold highlighter. I think this is perfect for the winter months as it gives you a glow that we usually don’t have due to the dry weather. It’s a liquid consistency, very easy to apply. You can use a stippling brush or your fingers.

IMG_4215
Red Apple Lipstick in Audrey

Red Apple Lipstick has always been on my wish list but it was a little more on the expensive side for me. I had the privilege to review some of their products (you can see my review here) and I chose to review the Audrey color because I had heard so many rave’s about it. And let me tell you the rave’s are OH SO TRUE! This lipstick has such a smooth texture, glides on heavenly and provides perfect amount of moisture. The shade is a gorgeous shade for any skin tone. I have been using this lipstick a LOT!!! It’s just the perfect neutral lipstick with a touch of pink color.

IMG_4212
Organic Bath Java Jolt Scrub

Now let’s talk about some body care. The cold and dry weather calls for some heavy moisturizing and scrubbing. Scrubbing helps to remove dead skin cells and keeps skin looking radiant. I have been using Organic Bath’s Java Jolt scrub*. This scrubs allows my skin to get a good scrub and moisture at the same time. It’s made with organic ingredients and it’s made here in Boston (major BONUS!). Now the scent of this specific scrub is glorious! It smells exactly like coffee!!! Yum! I have been avoiding coffee for almost two months now so this helps to at least have the scent in my life! I am so interested in trying their NEW Spiced Cacao eeeeekkkkk, I’ll probably end up eating it haha.

IMG_4219
Harvey Prince Eau de Creme

Finding a good perfume that is more natural has always been a huge struggle for me! Do you have the same issue?

I was able to find Harvey Prince’s Eau de Creme which has very good ingredients. The scent of this perfume is a sweet and light scent. It gives you a fresh feeling and everyone has always good things to say about the scent. This is a Mini Roller so you are able to carry this around in your purse and I’m sure it will last me a while. It is alcohol based so if you are allergic, sensitive or avoiding alcohol I would not suggest this for you.

IMG_4221
Target Slouchy Beanie

Last but not least is my amazing Slouchy Beanie from Target. This is the most comfortable beanie I’ve been able to use in the past 3 years. It is just so cute and stylish. It comes in various colors and it provides excellent coverage and warmth to the head area. If you live in a state that gets as cold as here in MA this is an awesome add on to your accessories.

I hope you enjoyed my favorites! Let me know what are your favorites for this month.

Review: Juka’s Organic Co. Superfood Oil Treatment

As you may know by my previous post, my passion for Green Beauty started with my hair(if you didn’t know, now you know :p). I was looking for ways to grow my hair out quickly and healthy. One of my best discoveries was to use carrier oils to oil my hair.

Today, I’ll be talking about a hair oil I bought about a month ago from Juka’s Organics Co, the Superfood Oil Treatment. I am a fan of their Red Palm Oil and I’ve been using it as a hair oil for quite some time now. So, when I saw they tweeted about the NEW Superfood, I decided I wanted to try it out.

IMG_0547.JPG

The Company

Let me start it off by stating that I am aware that there are many concerns about Red Palm Oil and the effects to Forests and Wildlife in Africa. I am happy to say that Juka’s Organic is a Company that states: “It Is Our Duty and To Our Benefit As Africans To Protect Our Environment And To Preserve Our Primary Resources. Rain forest and wildlife Is Part Of Our Heritage!“. You can read more about their values here. I love the way they promote sustainability in the African communities by supporting women and partnering with them for the supply of the Red Palm Oil. That being said I have only bought Red Palm Oil from this Company, mostly based on their amazing values.

Red Palm Oil

Now let’s talk briefly about Red Palm Oil (RPO). The pure oil is a deep red in color (if you see that the color is more on the orange side the oil has been mixed), if the weather is cold it tends to get thick in texture. Be aware that the pure oil tends to stain but it is easily washed out on skin (cover your clothes to avoid staining).

Some of the benefits of RPO include that it has potent antioxidants rich in phytonutients. Some of the phytonutrients include: tocotrienols (known as super vitamin E, it’s 40-60 times more potent than tocopherols), mixed carotenes (antioxidant and pro-vitamin A), phytosterols, plant squalene and Co-enzyme Q10 (information extracted from Juka’s Organic’s website). Personally I’ve seen amazing benefits on my hair (hair growth, volume and specially conditioning) and this is the main use I have for Pure RPO. I can go into more details on how I use RPO on my hair on another post. It is also recommended for cooking, but I am focusing on hair benefits.

The Superfood Oil Treatment

Let’s focus on the Superfood Oil Treatment. As you can see on the picture below, Red Palm Oil is one of the primary ingredients in the Superfood meaning that you would get the benefits of the oil, in addition to the other benefits provided by the rest of the oils. This product is marketed as a product that intensively conditions, moisturizes, repairs, protects, is anti-aging and for all hair types. And I am glad to say that it definitely lives to its expectations, I can’t say much about the anti-aging though hehe, I’ll have to see if my hair is less old ;), I kid. It also states that it stops breakage, split ends, dryness and promotes healthy growth of hair. Now this is a piece of gem in a 4 oz glass bottle.

Ingredients

One of the most important things for me when I buy a product is for me to know what are the ingredients of the product. The website doesn’t provide the list of all ingredients of the Superfood, so I decided to contact the company to know the details about the label. Although they did not provide the exact list of ingredients they did confirm that it did not have any chemicals and it was all oil based (which was good news for me).

Process

Now let me explain a little about how I oil my hair. I’ve had a strict routine for the past 9 months of oiling my hair twice a week. I did exactly the same with the Juka’s Superfood for two weeks. I did notice that I was using the precious oil too quickly. My reaction? NOOOOOOOOO, I need you in my life, don’t go!. At the moment of the picture it was already half full :'(. I decided to then oil my hair with the Superfood just once a week and then use coconut oil for my second oiling. I followed the instructions every time I used it, added oil to my divided hair and massaged it into the scalp/hair and left it on for no less than two hours.

My thoughts?

This oil treatment has an amazing scent, it’s not overbearing and it just makes it more enjoyable to oil your hair. It smells like a bouquet of flowers mixed with some herbs (strange description? I know lol). It was also very easy to use and spread in the hair. It was not messy, compared to using Pure RPO (not much staining). At the time of washing it out of my hair, two washes was enough to get the oil out and not leave no nasty oil residues (which I hate with my life, yuck!).

My hair ended up looking shiny and super soft to the touch. After the first use there was noticeable difference in the texture of my hair. I avoided doing anything on my hair(blow dry, adding leave in conditioner, etc.) on the first use to verify the immediate difference in my hair. I could definitely see my locks moisturized, with less flyaway’s and with extra volume. Please be aware that my hair is straight/wavy with dry/bristle ends. It worked for me but it doesn’t necessarily mean it will work for everyone (although they state is for all hair types).

My only complain is that I used it to quickly hehe. The website states that it can last 5 to 7 treatments depending on hair length and volume :'(… why, oh why??? I do have mid back length hair… so Shirley, don’t expect it to last you a life time!

I definitely plan to buy another bottle of this gem for my hair!

Have you ever used this specific product or RPO as an oil treatment?

Talk to you soon!

Going Green Tag

Hola Chicas!

As I am sitting down to write my first post of this little blog of mine, I decide that I will be writing about why and how I decided to start using more natural and non toxic products. Why I decided to start a different lifestyle not only in beauty but in all areas of my life.

I remembered then that I had seen a few Youtube videos/blog posts of the Going Green Tag and thought it would be perfect to start this blogging journey. Rachel from All Natural Aspirations was one of the first green bloggers and Youtubers  I subscribed too and she is also the creator of this wonderful tag.

These are the questions of the Going Green Tag:

1. What started it all off for you?

2. What was the first thing to go? (Ingredient or product)

3. What are you/did you struggle to let go of?

4. What has been your best find or change? (i.e a green product or a tip that you’re really glad you’ve found/learnt)

5. What has been the worst thing about going green?

6. Anything else to add? Any tips or tricks to pass on?

Now, let’s start this off…

1. What started it all off for you?

I remember the day I got pregnant, and how after this I decided to Breastfeed. I think this was how it all started. Breastfeeding is one of those natural things in life that all society wants to intervene and interfere. After this I decided I wasn’t going to give my son any medicines and only use natural remedies or natural medications (after he was hospitalized and was put in so many medications that it was just sad).

In regards to beauty it all started with my hair, YUP! my hair. I wanted to grow it out, and I saw that my hair never grew. I started to research methods to grow hair and noticed that most posts stated AVOID SULFATES, AVOID DIMETHICONE (Silicones) … and this just trickled down until this day.

2. What was the first thing to go? (Ingredient or product)

Ingredients: Sulfates and Dimethicone

Product: Shampoo’s with Sulfates (All of the ones I owned)

3. What are you/did you struggle to let go of?

I noticed that it was pretty easy for me to let go of all my products. The ones that were very difficult were the “High End” Makeup. Up until last week (not kidding! :/) I was still holding on to my Naked 3 Palette and a few MAC products I had, I gave them to a makeup artist.

4. What has been your best find or change? (i.e a green product or a tip that you’re really glad you’ve found/learnt)

I think changing to a green lifestyle has helped me in all ways (I still struggle with Healthy eating, but I am working on it). One of my best finds definitely has to be The All Natural Face and Silk Naturals brands. These brands not only use non toxic ingredients, they are also cruelty free, have a huge amount of products that are Vegan anddddddd… THEY ARE VERY AFFORDABLE! BONUS!

5. What has been the worst thing about going green?

Wow… This is an awesome question. Now for me the worst part was starting to transition into buying green products, to later know that these products still had certain ingredients like Phenoxyethanol, Sodium Coco Sulfate, Dimethicone, among others that would NOT consider them natural. I always recommended to read labels even though you may trust a brand. Some brands may use certain ingredients specially on water based products. Also, just because a product is labeled as vegan, organic or natural it doesn’t mean it isn’t toxic. It may still have ingredients that are FAR AWAY from being natural.

6. Anything else to add? Any tips or tricks to pass on?

READ THE INGREDIENTS of everything you put on your body. If there is something you don’t understand or can’t spell research the purpose of that ingredient and the toxicity. I love to check pages like the Environmental Working Group (EWG) and Chemical of the Day by Bubble and Bee Organics. EWG states the level of toxicity of the ingredient or product in mention. Chemical of the Day goes more into depth about the research put into place in regards to the specific ingredient that you are researching.

And of course don’t go crazy buying (then you’ll end up like me, throwing away stuff). Do your research and then buy :).

Let me know how you started your journey off to more natural products? And hey, If you do the Going Green Tag let me know :).
